Crisis Stabilization and Assessment at Pinecrest
Crisis Stabilization and Assessment Model of Practice provides the opportunity for Pinecrest to provide a standardized, consistent, structured framework for the competency-based services for children placed in our emergency shelter.
The Specific Trauma Integrative Model (STIM) at Pinecrest
The Specific Trauma Integrative Model (STIM) developed by Pinecrest combines elements of the evidenced-based Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT) model with evidence-informed and best practice models that address issues of complex trauma, transition age youth, permanency, developmental disabilities, and medically complex conditions of youth placed in out of home care. The STIM also integrates the core principles of exceptional care via crisis stabilization and child-specific services, which focus on youth safety, permanency, and well-being. The STIM is unique in how these elements are integrated to create a “focus of positive outcomes,” the role of the Pinecrest team as primary caregivers and the way in which the program supports the efforts of those involved in the treatment of the youth. The STIM model is the cornerstone of Pinecrest’s service to the children placed in our residential treatment center.
Natural Mentoring Model at Pinecrest
Natural mentoring is a youth-led process and relies on the decision-making power of the youths to identify their natural mentors. In a system where so many decisions are made for youths, young people in foster care often feel powerless and out of control. Natural mentoring puts the control back in the hands of youths by allowing them to self-nominate an adult whom they determine to be important.
Caring Adults R Everywhere (C.A.R.E.) is a research-informed, social justice-oriented social support intervention for older youth in foster care that utilizes the power of connection to caring adults through natural mentoring. The goal of this manual is to provide child welfare organizations with the vision and practical tools needed to facilitate and support the development of growth-fostering relationships between older youth in care and caring adults. C.A.R.E. advances a new paradigm in child welfare practice: one that acknowledges that all youth require independent living skills and life-long connections to caring adults. The Natural Mentoring model is the therapeutic vehicle for our Transitional Living Program at Pinecrest.
